Kelly Trerise aka “The Gloss Boss” has spent well over a decade as a professional makeup artist in the TV and film, fashion and magazine industries. Three years ago her passion for boudoir was born when she started working for Jennifer Williams as her official “Beauty Queen” and Studio Manager. World renowned for her creative and artistic ventures, Kelly’s true love for business has emerged and her entrepreneurial spirit allowed to thrive with Gloss Boudoir. Kelly believes that all women should try a Boudoir shoot at least once in their lives to open their world to the confidence, sexiness and femininity within them! She’s thrilled that she gets to introduce women to the art of Boudoir every single day!
I had the exciting opportunity to shoot with Kelly and her business partner Jennifer. From the minute I walked into the studio, till the time I left, these girls made me feel like a rockstar. If there were any nerves, they quickly checked out at the door. The level of professionalism these two have not only makes them successful as businesswomen, but creates a beautiful environment for their clients to feel completely at ease. Boudoir doesn’t have to be about lingerie and lace, you can wear what makes you feel sexy (Even your favourite sweater or dress).
I have had my makeup done by many artists and think there is some real talent out there. The one thing that made getting my makeup done by Kelly stand out (aside from her incredible talent) was her infectious energy. This woman radiates beauty inside and out. It’s hard not to feel good around her. She has this way of bringing fun into her work, we had music blasting and the laughter flowed. She’s the kind of person that makes you feel like you’ve known her for years. Kelly glammed me up and got me in the groove, and Jennifer worked her magic behind the lens.
I’m happy to share this interview with you and give you an inside look into what makes Kelly the Boss, when it comes to Gloss!
BB411~ How did you come to work as a Make Up Artist, was it something you knew from an early age?
KT~ I’ve been creative ever since I was a child, it wasn’t until a job shadow day in high school where I got to shadow a makeup artist on set of a TV show that I realized Makeup artistry was an amazing career that I wanted to pursue!
BB411~ What do you love most about being a Makeup Artist?

BB411~ What made you decide to focus on Boudoir and what makes the company different?
KT~ I decided to focus on Boudoir after having my first boudoir shoot with Jennifer. We’d been working together for a few months but I was doing other projects as well, once I had my own shoot with her I felt empowered, beautiful, sexy and totally fell in love with our art form!
BB411~ How did you and Jennifer come to team up?
KT~ Jennifer moved to Vancouver from Edmonton and I had just moved back to Vancouver from traveling around the world. She was looking for an artist and my name came up, she called, I did my work for her and we’ve been together ever since!
BB411~ What do you love most about Jennifer?
KT~ Jennifer and I see eye to eye on pretty much everything. She calls it like it is and doesn’t beat around the bush. She’s clearly one of the best photographers of her time but the best part is that she clearly LOVES her job and she loves the art that she creates. I appreciate how well she runs her business and how she respects me, our clients, and the art we create together.
BB411~ Where does your drive and focus come from?
KT~ I want to be the best in my field, hands down. I’m continually growing and learning and I’ve had so many wonderful opportunities in the past that have kept me focused, interested and engaged. In my 15 years of being a professional artist I’ve gone through the gamut of Makeup artistry. Special FX, Fashion, TV, Film and beauty. All of those things excite me and they all add value to my work.
BB411~ What are your favourite brands to work with (what can we find in your kit)?
KT~ I’m a “French” girl at heart! Lancome, Chanel and I also use a bit of NARS and MAC too!
BB411~ What is the signature look your known for when it comes to makeup and hair?

KT~ Boudoir style makeup and hair is my specialty. People in Vancouver know me best for this type of style. Victoria’s Secret waves, a soft smokey eye and glossed up lips!
BB411~ If you weren’t in the career you are today and you could be anything in the world what would it be?
KT~ A Chef! Love to cook, love to eat!
BB411~ How did your parents influence the person you are today?
KT~ I picked an alternative career that can be hard to “make it” in, especially in Vancouver, the fact that they stood behind my decision to do what I love means the world to me. My Mother, especially has been my biggest cheerleader of all time. She’s amazing.
BB411~ How do you stay motivated with life’s daily stresses that come up?

KT~ I love my job, I may be the only person alive who hurry’s home from vacation to get back to work! I don’t tend to need outside motivation, I love my life.
BB411~ Which Make Up Artists did you admire growing up or do today?
KT~ Kevyn Aucoin has always been someone who I admired. He was a genius when it came to a face and some brushes!
BB411~ What inspires you personally and professionally?
KT~ Love inspires me! Finding the person that I genuinely want to spend the rest of my life with is the most exhilarating thing that I’ve ever done. Being in love makes everything seem better and more exciting! In terms of my professional life, I’m one of those people who gets really, really excited to see finished images that I’ve worked on. I love improving my work every day!
BB411~ Have you always been in love with fashion and beauty?
KT~ Always! As a teenager I was a model and got the opportunity to travel to model on the runways of some amazing fashion houses in Europe. Once I realized that I wouldn’t be able to model forever I decided that staying in the industry was really important to me. The industry gives me a total rush and allows me to be a free spirit artist!
BB411~ Is there a certain celebrity you haven’t worked with but would like to?

KT~ Madonna. Period.
BB411~ Describe your style?
KT~ You will find me in animal print and big gold jewelry at all times. Most people would describe my style as “sexy”. I love being a woman, it’s so much fun!
BB411~ 3 words that best describe you?
KT~ Loving, Creative and Loyal.
BB411~ What is your skin care regime?
KT~ Wash, exfoliate, tone, serum, moisturize, eye cream… I do the whole works!
BB411~ 3 beauty products you carry with you always?
KT~ Always a good cleanser, an even better moisturizer and an out of this world mascara.
BB411~ #1 beauty product you could not live without?
KT~ Latisse eyelash serum… I can flirt with my husband from across the room with my eyelashes! They’re soooo long!
BB411~ What is your favorite fragrance?
KT~ I’ve been wearing Victor and Ralph Flower Bomb since the day it came out and men and women every single day for 10 years have commented on it just walking down the street! I’ll never change. Lord help me if they ever discontinue it!
BB411~ Do you have a best kept beauty secret that has been passed down to you from your mother or grandmother?
KT~ Dye your grey hair, you’ll look years younger!

BB411~ What does beauty mean to you?
KT~ Beauty is all about positive and happy personalities. A smile is the most beautiful thing a person can wear.
BB411~ Are you involved in any charities that are close to your heart?
KT~ Heart disease and cancer has run through my family so those are the charities that speak the loudest to me.
BB411~ What does it mean to you to give back?
KT~ Helping others always feels good. I believe that whatever way you choose to give back will be important to yourself and touch someones life.
BB411~ If you could tell your younger self something you have learned and now know what would it be?
KT~ Haha, I think being more of a free spirit in my older age has come in handy, I let things roll off my back more easily and just have a much brighter outlook in general. Everything happens how it’s going to happen so just go with the flow.
BB411~ Fun fact that people may not know about you?
KT~ I run. A lot. Marathons, half marathons, 10kms, I run them all!
BB411~ Favorite quote?
KT~ “Anything less than mad, passionate, extraordinary love is a waste of time. There are too many mediocre things in life. Love shouldn’t be one of them.”

KT! I’ve been lucky enough in my life to have already gone on my “bucket list” trip spending a year traveling the world seeing the wonders that I have always wanted to see. From here on out all of my moments are gravy… I love gravy!
BB411~ What has been your biggest AHA Moment in life (so far)?
KT~ Realizing that although I’m a creative mind who needs time to imagine and create, I’m a business woman at heart. When I realized that, my life became a lot more fascinating… and a lot easier!

BB411~ What advice would you give entrepreneurs starting out that are following their dreams?
KT~ Don’t give up. There will be a lot of time spent doing the dirty work to get yourself off the ground but stick with it if you love it, and keep a positive vibe. It’s well worth it! Smile!
BB411~ Where do you see yourself in 1, 5 and 10 years?
KT~ Working in the same career now, Still married to the love of my life, traveling and spending time just being an interesting person with lots of love to share.
BB411~ When I say the words #lovethis, what is the first thing that comes to mind?
KT~ My husband, my business, my family and friends and a wicked bottle of champagne.
